We stayed in Siem Reap, Cambodia for 2 days and 2 nights, I know it is such a short period of time but we need to go back to Thailand for work. Anyways, the budget that I wrote in the Title does not include Airplane and accommodation since we have different departing area, you might be in the Philippines or US or I don’t know where you are right now but we depart from Thailand. I also did not include the accommodation with the budget in the Title because our Accommodation is already included in our flight. We booked a Flight and hotel in Air Asia, when it comes to cheap flight and accommodation I always opt Air Asia. Anyways, Air Asia is not a fancy airline like Emirates, but it is such a very nice and budget friendly airline for backpackers or budget traveler, like me. We stayed in The Unique Angkor Villa because it is cheap if it’s included with flights, it already has a swimming pool, it is a 2 minutes’ walk to the Pub street and Night Market and also what I love about this villa is that they have free airport pick-up and transfer. Plus they also have Tuktuk that you can rent for the whole day trip in Angkor temples
When we arrive at the Siem Reap International Airport, I was amaze by their airport because it’s not so fancy like in a good way. It’s so simple and direct like there are no decorations so minimalist and clean. Our free hotel pick-up service is waiting us outside, and I am very surprise because (you know every small details makes me impress) the sign board of the driver that will make us recognize him is so professional. Some of the other driver outside the airport they only write the name of their guest in a paper, but our driver use their villa’s logo in a proper sign board with my name, that’s a good service. When we arrive in the villa we are greeted and welcome amazingly and we received complimentary welcome drinks and banana chips. The room is okay, it is actually what you see is what you get. We get the 2 single beds and amenities inside the room are all present.
So let’s get started with our Day 1 in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Our Day 1 is all about Angkor temples. We woke up at 4:00 AM because we planned to see the Sunrise in Angkor Wat temple. Our driver is waiting for us at the lobby of the villa, so from our villa to the Angkor Wat temple is around 30 minutes’ drive. But we stop first at the ticketing office, they have different windows for different types of ticket that you want to buy, like 1 day, 2 days and etc. We only bought the 1 day ticket since we are only staying for 2 days. When we arrive at the Angkor Wat temple, it’s totally dark and there is no light but I’m not afraid because there are also a lot of tourist going to the perfect spot to see the Sunrise. We did have the perfect spot and experience the sunrise. But I’m just disappointed with the sunrise. I am expecting that there is a literal circle form that will rise up behind the Angkor Wat temple and appreciate the magical sunrise. But there is none it’s only like a dark that being lighted slowly, you know what I mean? And there’s a lot of people who are also watching the sunrise, so if you want to experience the Sunrise in Angkor temple expect a lot of tourist in there. After enjoying the sunrise, we went to the temples and take photos and videos and do what we need to do. The ruins and temples are amazingly beautiful, like how those people long time ago made such a beautiful temple. Like every small details has a meaning and story behind. Other temples give me some goosebumps, not because it’s scary but because it’s totally amazing. We also had the chance to see the ruins where Angelina Jolie shoots a part of the scene in the Tomb Raider movie. For lunch our driver bring us to these amazing restaurant where we can rest and lie down after a very tiring walk around the area. TIPS! For you guyz if you are going to visit Angkor temples, always bring a lot of water and avoid buying water on the area because it’s too expensive. And even though your tuktuk driver will provide you water still bring one for yourself and keep it in your bag. Trust me! It’s the most important thing that you will need. We spent roaming around the Angkor Temples until 2:00 PM and then we went back to our Villa and rest. Our next activity is Pottery making, we don’t want to waste our hours in Cambodia since we only have a few days there. We booked a Pottery class for 1 hour and 45 minutes in Khmer Ceramics Fine Arts Centre. What I like about Khmer Ceramics they have a free pick-up and drop off service from your hotel or villa to their location and vice versa. They have a very friendly trainer that will help you and teach you throughout the class until you’re done. You can also bring home the one pot that you make and they will give you a certificate. They are going to give you the pot that you make on the next day at 5:00 PM, however if you are leaving Siem Reap on the next day before 5:00 PM, no worries because you can still get a one finished product on their shop that is below 10 USD or they can also ship the one pot that you make to your home country just pay extra for shipping. The pottery class is fun and I realized that to those people who works with this kind of job, is not a joke. Because at the long run while we are making the pots it’s not fun anymore, it is so tiring especially in the arms and the feet, because you need to stamp the wheels underneath the table to make the pot. That’s why I salute to those people who works in pottery. After pottery class we asked our driver to drop us at the Night Market. Their Night Market is a little bit confusing because they have these so many alleys that are also markets. We dine in the night market and enjoyed our night and bought some souvenirs.
