I really wanted to get my hair done again. Like, decades ago, I tried the balayage, and I want to do it again. I am really tired of looking at myself in the mirror, looking blank, and doing nothing exciting. So I decided that once I get home to the Philippines, I will do the balyage again.
But What is Balyage?
If you're not familiar with the term, balayage is a French hair coloring technique that involves hand-painting highlights onto the hair for a natural, sun-kissed look. Unlike traditional foil highlights, balayage creates a more blended, gradient effect with fewer harsh lines.
It's perfect for those who want a low-maintenance hair color that looks effortlessly chic. Plus, because it's a more natural-looking technique, it works on almost any hair color or length.
If you're thinking of trying out a new hair color, balayage might be worth considering! Just make sure to find a trained and experienced hairstylist who knows how to create the look you're going for.
The Process of Getting Balayage
I already did a balayage last 2019 in Cagayan de Oro City, and honestly, it really looks great. I looked good. But since I came back to Thailand and haven't done anything with my hair for four years, my hair has returned to its natural color, super black.
I don't have the extra time to go to Cagayan de Oro City and get a hair touch-up, but luckily my sister had her balayage last year in a hair salon in the same area where she lives, and she looks good in it. So, without a doubt, I made a reservation at Vaine Aesthetics & Beauty Lounge and requested their senior hair stylist, Ms. Zharpey.
Before my appointment, I was impressed with the service at the salon. Their stylist messaged me on Facebook, asking for basic information about my hair and what I wanted. Like, how long is my hair, how dark is my hair, and she even suggested what balayage color would work for me since I have very dark hair. This is a very good service, especially for introverted customers like me who are afraid to ask what's good and what's not.
I came early to the salon; it's on the second floor. I was the first customer, and I was amazed at how clean and cute their salon is. It's not cheap; it's luxurious.
It was a smooth and relaxing session. Ms. Zharpey was very entertaining and very good at her job; she really handled my hair with care. And, to tell the truth, I slept during half of it.
The Results
It's totally beyond what I expected; I look like a different person. I look gorgeous. I love the outcome of my balayage ash gray hair. It's what I want; I don't want very colored hair; I want it to be toned down. And it's worth every penny. I paid 3,500 PHP, including the haircut.
Maintenance and Tips
After getting balayage, it's important to take proper care of your hair to maintain the beautiful results. Here are some tips to keep your balayage looking its best:
Use a color-safe shampoo and conditioner
Balayage involves lightening sections of hair, which can make it more prone to damage and fading. Using products specifically designed for colored hair can help keep the color looking fresh and prevent damage.
Limit heat styling
Heat styling tools like flat irons and curling irons can cause further damage to already-lightened hair. Try to limit heat styling as much as possible, and when you do use heat, use a heat protectant spray.
Protect from the sun
UV rays can also cause color to fade, so if you're spending time in the sun, wear a hat or use a leave-in conditioner with SPF.
Get regular trims
Balayage can sometimes leave ends looking a bit wispy, so getting regular trims can help keep the hair looking healthy and fresh.
Use a purple shampoo
If your balayage has cool tones (like ash or platinum), using a purple shampoo can help prevent brassy tones from developing.
Remember that every person's hair is different, so it's important to find a maintenance routine that works best for you and your hair type. With proper care and maintenance, your stunning new balayage can last for months to come!
